WELCOME BACK: Well after a couple of crummy nights sleep we are finally acclimated to daylight savings time. We got a good one this week that talked about how stupid it is that we gain an hour in the fall when the weather is lousy and loose and hour in the spring when the weather is beautiful. Oh well, it snowed this week in southern Washington so guess not all spring weather is great! Some of you have been asking about our grandson and why we haven't posted any pictures lately. We've been busy is the answer but there are a couple of really cute new ones at www.runnerduck.com/grandson.htm. I guess you are never too young to start impersonating famous people, Elvis is back! Ken's been working on our web site to make it a little easier to navigate. If you have a minute check it out and tell him what you think, www.runnerduck.com. What's New This Week? We've added something new just for the kids. We are going to call it Kids Korner and will feature little projects for the kids, with a little help from their parents. We hope you find this fun and a chance to spend some quality time with the kids. Check it out below. Some of you wrote asking about the vent opener and that the picture was hard to see. I always try to keep the pictures small so that it doesn't take too long for the web page to download. I took a much better picture or it and you can check it out at www.runnerduck.com/images/vent_opener.jpg COMPUTER TALK Update from last week. I spoke with Dave, the author of the solitary program I sent you last week and he is taking his site down. That's the bad news but the good news is that the program is still FREE and available from www.zdnet.com/downloads/stories/info/0,,000XTA,.html. It seems that every other week I'm bringing you more bad news about computers. I don't mean to do that but it just seems to be the way the world is these days. This week I have to tell you about our government in action and the Gramm-Leech-Bliley Act. SITE OF THE WEEK Every once in a while I try to do something to help out the world a little bit. One of the things I've had a lot of interest in is cancer research. My dad died of cancer and it always seemed like a terrible waste. Do you have a favorite site, besides RunnerDuck.com? Let me know and I'll share it with everyone. There are a billion sites out there and growing every day. I can't check them all out by myself so please share with us your findings. Cake Mix:
Cake Mix: Syrup: This is just right for that after dinner sweet tooth. Let me know if you've tried our recipes and what you think. If you have any suggestions to improve them just drop me a line. All of them are from friends and family and some are very old. If you have a recipe that you would like to share, please send it to The DuckMaster and I will post it on our web site or in the next RunnerDuck Review. If you are looking for something in the kitchen just type it here and let Cooking.com find it for you. KiDS KoRneRWe want to start this off with a fun little project. With spring comes lots of birds and it's always fun to feed the birds. This is a really simple bird feeder that you can make really fast. Here is a list of the things you will need. Wash out a small empty plastic peanut butter container or something similar. Since some parents don't like bird seeds sprouting in their flower gardens here's a little tip you can share with them. Spread the bird seed out on a cookie sheet and bake in a 250 degree oven for 1/2 hour. | PROJECTSStep 2 - The Frame This week we will start building the frame. The frame is nothing more than a simple 2" X 4" stud frame. I used treated wood on the bottom and cedar for the rest. Cedar is a little spendy but I like the way it ages without a finish and I like the smell. Do your framing on a flat surface and be sure to square it up before nailing. The shape of your frame will depend on your design. Since I don't have a good picture of my greenhouse when it was framed, here is a doctored picture to give you an idea. Here is another doctored picture from the front to give you a little better idea of the framing. I've whited out the inset panels to just show the frame. Until next week, get to nailing. JOKE OF THE WEEKAs many of you know I play drums for The Tempos. I don't know why it is that drummers are picked on a lot but here is one from my dear brother. Happy 60th birthday Bro! (April 10th) A drummer got bored with his instrument and decided to take up the accordion instead. Walking into a music shop, he spotted one he liked and asked the shopkeeper, "how much is that accordion by the wall?" The shopkeeper looked at him and said, "You're a drummer, aren't you?" "Yes, how did you know?" he said. "That's the radiator." Until Next Time...If you want to chat about something just drop us a line any time, we like to talk about most anything. We've really been enjoying the jokes and all your comments. We always look forward to hearing from you. We are still waiting for one of you readers to step up to the keyboard and tell us about your interesting projects, ones that we can write about. If you have one please let us know. Just send us an email. If you have something that you would like to share in this newsletter just let me know and I will consider publishing it in a future article.
