Plant Name Tag

Most people think about tagging their plants when they get them or when they plant them in the spring but think about this, in the fall you start pruning back plants and the leaves fall off others. They stop blooming and it gets really hard to tell what they are. Put name tags on them then if you want to move them in early spring you'll know for sure what you are moving.

Gourd/Pumpkin Candles
Gourd/Pumpkin Candles

When fall rolls around we need to decorate the house with fun things that represent the season. Halloween is also just around the corner and these candles will add just the right touch to your party.
BACK

Decorated Bird House

Spring is not far off and we are getting in the spirit by making some really pretty bird houses. You can decorate real bird houses or small ones for setting around the house.
BACK

Potting Stakes

Here's a great idea if you are going to start potting some plants. One of the questions that always comes up is what's the best way to mark what you've planted. We think that these potting stakes are simple, look nice and work great.
BACK

Bird Feeder

With spring comes lots of birds and it's always fun to feed the birds. This is a really simple bird feeder that you can make really fast.
BACK

Coffee Cup Bird Feeder

This project can be a little tedious but the results are well worth the effort. You may break a couple of cups and saucers before you're done so be sure to use old cheap ones. These make really wonderful gifts.
BACK

Garden Art Wind Chime

Here's another one of those projects that requires a degree of creativity. The picture doesn't show ours really good but at least it may give you an idea.
BACK

Table Cloth Weights

It's picnic time and one of the age old problems is keeping the tablecloth from blowing away in the wind.
BACK

Two Liter Bird Feeder

RunnerDuck readers Ziggy and Rena sent us this weeks project. It's a really simple bird feeder that would be fun to make with your kids.
BACK

Bird Nesting Wreath

It won't be long and the little birdies will be building their nests. Something you can do for them is give them some nice soft material to help them out. You could spread some dryer lint around and that works pretty good but if you want to make your yard look nice during the process then this wreath is just the ticket.
BACK

Birds Nest

If you are tired of waiting for the birds to make their nests then we thought this would be the next best thing. They are fun to make with your children but be sure to supervise them because this project uses hot melt glue.
BACK

Fork Garden Signs

We've started some seedlings in the greenhouse already. It won't be long and we'll be transplanting them into the garden. These simple garden signs will help us remember what is planted where.
BACK

Garden Tool Protection

It's always better to use tools that are clean and work good. This handy tip will help you keep those steel tools in perfect condition all season long.
BACK

Garden Sun Catcher

This project came to us from Marilyn's niece Tammy down in Eatonville, Washington. Believe it or not we actually do catch the sun every now and then here in Western Washington.
BACK

Plastic Bird Feeder

This project started off as a kids project but it soon turned out to be much harder than expected. It still would make a great kids project but with lots of adult help.
After we had this bird feeder up for a while we found a problem with the squirrels so we made a modification that you'll find at the end of the instructions.
BACK

Outdoor Candles

Summer is a time for outdoor parties and a great way to dress them up is with these Outdoor Candles. They are pretty and give off just enough light to create a perfect mood.
BACK

Drying Rosemary

Fall is here and it's a great time to cut rosemary for drying. The drying rack I've used was built by Ken and you can see the instructions on how to build one for yourself in our newsletter from September 17, 2004 Newsletter.
BACK

Gourd Bird Feeder

There are a lot of neat things you can do with gourds and we think that this bird feeder is one of the nicer ones. They are a lot of fun to make and really go look nice.
BACK

Whirlygig Pots

Here's a fun little summer project where you can combine your love of whirlygigs with the beauty of flowers.
BACK

Stacked Rocks

People have been stacking rocks since Stonehenge and before. It's rumored that the Menehune in Hawaii stacked rocks to mark their trails or for possible religious reasons. When we went to Hawaii we saw stacked rocks and stacked a few of our own. This little project is sort of a take off on that history.
BACK

Suet Bird Feeder

Winter is here and the birdies are hungry! It gets harder for the birds to find food in the winter but you can help. These easy to make suet feeders work really good and they make nice presents too.
