It's almost time to start cutting back some of those plants that have grown too big over this past summer. Before you throw away the sticks see if you can use them for this fun project.

Here is what you'll need:

  • Green sticks, straight and different sizes.
  • Small nails or hot melt glue.
  • Some beads for decoration.
First you need to decide what type of chair you want to make. It can be straight or curved, big or small, fancy or simple. The two chairs shown below represent a big straight one and a small fancy one.
Stick Chairs
Cut the sticks to length using pruning shears. You want to be very accurate in the length of pieces that go between other pieces as in the seat. I think it is easiest to start with the main chair frame and then fill in the back and seat.
This is one of those projects that requires lots of creativity. Look in books to get ideas. Have your parents help out. Believe it our not they may actually have some neat ideas also.
One nice thing is that they are made from waste material so if you make a mistake you are not out anything so experiment and have fun.

Send us a picture of your creation and we'll post it on our web page at RunnerDucklings Kids Corner.
