A Runner Duck

RunnerDuck Home

WELCOME BACK:      By the time you get this Friday the 13th should pretty much be over. I always think about all the bad things that are supposed to happen on Friday the 13th but this year I didn't even give it a second thought. The reason, it's Good Friday and that's gotta cancel out all the bad associated with the 13th.
A big welcome to a bunch of new subscribers it's nice to have you all on board. As I've often mentioned in the past this is a two way street. We like to hear from you and have you participate in our little newsletter.
Last week I told you that it was my brother Ron's 60th birthday. Well they had a party for him and obviously he was acting more like a kid than an old fart. He and his friends love to hot tub and here is a picture from the party, way to go Bro.

Easter is this Sunday and our Runner Duck is all dressed up for the occasion. We hope your day is wonderful.
Easter Runner Duck

This will be our grandson's first Easter and I imagine we are more excited about it than he is since he's only 7 months old. We hope your Easter is a good one.

What's New This Week? From the comments we received you seem to like the new Kids Corner. We have some neat projects up our sleeves for the kids but we really would like to get some from you. If you have a little project that kids can handle please drop us a line.

We are still on our water conservation kick so we'll have enough water this summer to keep the place looking good and the power on. One of our readers wrote in a suggestion that I think one half of the family will enjoy. Take a trip to your favorite mall and buy more clothes! That way you end up doing the laundry less often saving a bunch of water and energy.
Thanks for that great tip ;-)

COMPUTER TALK

Last week we kicked off the RunnerDuck Cancer Team at The Intel-United Devices Cancer Research Project. If you haven't joined yet please take a minute and do so. It's very simple and for a good cause. Just go to http://members.ud.com/home.htm, download and install the program. Once you've done that go back to their site and under Member Services select My Team Manager and then List All Teams. Look up RunnerDuck and after selecting it click on Join Team. An easier way is to just click HERE after you have set up the program and you'll go directly to the RunnerDuck Team.

SITE OF THE WEEK

Being that it's Easter Weekend what better time to go looking for "Easter Eggs". No not those kind, the computer kind and many more.
It's a little known fact that people hide "Easter Eggs" in many things like movies, music, art and software. In the computer did you know that there is a Spy Hunter Game buried in Windows Excel 2000.
Check out www.eeggs.com and be prepared to spend a bunch of time looking for all the different "Easter Eggs".
Thanks to Ron R. for this Easter treat. Ron is becoming a regular contributor to our little newsletter, thanks again!

NEW LINK
We've added a new link to our web page where you can get a glimpse of a real Runner duck. They have a web cam trained on "Mischief" their pet Runner duck and "Trouble" their Pekin duck. You can't always see them but they are usually there during feeding time in the morning. You can check them out at www.liveducks.com/.

Do you have a favorite site, besides RunnerDuck.com? Let me know and I'll share it with everyone. There are a billion sites out there and growing every day. I can't check them all out by myself so please share with us your findings.

KiDS CorNeR

Here's a fun little project for the kiddies just in time for Easter.
This week we are going to make an Easter Bunny mask.

Here are the things you will need.

  • 2 Paper Plates
  • Staples or Glue
  • Colored Marking Pens
  • 2 Rubber Bands
  • 1 Plastic Straw
  • Scissors

Be sure to have your parents help with the cutting so you don't cut yourself!

Mark cutting lines for the ears and bow tie on one of the plates using the other plate as a guide.

Cut out the ears and bow tie.
Mark and cut two holes for the eyes. You can use a ruler to measure your eyes so they line up good.
Take your colored markers and make your rabbit face, ears and bow tie.
Cut the plastic straw in half and the cut from the ends to make whiskers.
Poke a small hole on each side for the rubber bands. These will hold the mask on when it's finished.
Staple the ears and bow tie to the face.
Put the rubber bands through the holes and loop them through themselves.
Glue the whiskers on and there you have it.

Wear this mask and you will be the hit of the Easter Egg hunt. Have fun!

Be sure to visit the RunnerDuck Toy Store at www.runnerduck.com/rdtoys.htm.

   THIS WEEKS FREE RECIPE
Eggs Ala Goldenrod

After you are done with your Easter Egg Hunt make this delicious breakfast. This recipe uses one dozen hard boiled (decorated) eggs.

Peel the hard boiled eggs. (so much for the decoration)
Divide the Egg Whites into one bowl and the Yolks into another.
In the Yolk bowl add Salt and Pepper to taste and fluff with a fork. This is the Goldenrod!
In the Egg Whites bowl cut up the Egg Whites into bite size pieces.

In a sauce pan make a medium white sauce as follows.

  • 4 Cups Milk
  • 8 Tablespoons Butter
  • 8 Tablespoons Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper

Melt the Butter in a pan, add Flour, Milk, Salt and Pepper.
Bring to a low boil to thicken, reduce heat and add Egg Whites. You may have to thin a little with Milk.
Pour the Cream Sauce over toast or biscuits and top with a sprinkling of the Egg Yolks.
Tasty additions include Bacon or Ham on the side or on the toast or cheddar cheese.

If you have any leftovers, (I can't imagine), add Peas, cooked Potatoes, Pearl Onions and the Yolks to the cream sauce. Serve it with your Holiday Ham.

This is a very old recipe that has been in Marilyn's family for generations. We hope you enjoy it for your Easter.

Let me know if you've tried our recipes and what you think. If you have any suggestions to improve them just drop me a line. All of them are from friends, family and faithful readers. Some are very old and quite special.
We also have a free recipe at the RunnerDuck Kitchen Store. We offer a new recipe every month so check it out.

If you have a recipe that you would like to share, please send it to The DuckMaster and I will post it on our web site or in the next RunnerDuck Review.

If you are looking for something in the kitchen just type it here and let Cooking.com find it for you.

PROJECTS

The Greenhouse (continued)

Step 3 - Put Up The Frame

This is probably the simplest part of this project. Since my greenhouse was only 4' X 8' the walls were pretty easy to handle. It's always best to have someone help you with this. Once again I don't have pictures of the project in process but will try to point out what I'm talking about with doctored pictures.
Just start with one wall and nail it into your foundation. Now add the adjoining wall and nail it to the foundation. Before you nail these walls together make sure they are plumb in all directions.

Repeat this process on the remaining walls.
You should now have something that is starting to look like a building.
Next week we'll build the roof.

Until Next Time...

The tulips are starting to come into full bloom in the Skagit Valley area of Washington. The annual Tulip Festival is in full swing. If you've never seen this it is spectacular and well worth the trip. People come from all over the world to see them. It's akin to visiting New England in the fall.
Here is a site that has a few photos of them www.cs.washington.edu/homes/wchan/photo/skagit.html.

If you want to chat about something just drop us a line any time, we like to talk about most anything.

We've really been enjoying the jokes and all your comments. We always look forward to hearing from you.

We are still waiting for one of you readers to step up to the keyboard and tell us about your interesting projects, ones that we can write about. If you have one please let us know. Just send us an email. If you have something that you would like to share in this newsletter just let me know and I will consider publishing it in a future article.
